You say "online solicitation of a minor" like it's a bad thing.

Apparently, we're all getting a bit wound up, and should just chill out a bit.

AFTERSNARK: One of Mr. Strong's major complaints appears to be that, unlike Foley, some Democrats committed allegedly similar offenses to Foley's and still not only remained in Congress but ran again and won re-election. And you know what? I agree. Completely.

I think it's totally unfair that Foley resigned, announced he wouldn't run again and checked into rehab, thus depriving his constituents of their democratic right to vote for him. In all fairness, I think it would be a terrific idea for Foley to reconsider, leave rehab and announce to all that, by God, since his name is going to be on the ballot, he's going to stay the course and stand for re-election.

As a matter of simple justice, I think it would be just ducky if Foley were to spend these last five weeks campaigning vigorously, holding public rallies and mingling closely with all of his constituents -- particularly those with teenage children. I couldn't be more supportive of that idea, and I'm assuming neither could Mr. Strong, since he's whining so incessantly about it.

That is what would make you happy, right, Jonathan? Foley getting exactly the same opportunity as those nasty Democrats and being allowed to face the voters for re-election, correct? Because if it isn't what you're proposing, then you're just bitching for no reason and you should shut the fuck up.

What's more, President Clinton did the same thing Foley did and got impeached by the Republican majority in the House of Representatives, and beat the impeachment in the US Senate, and kept his seat in the oval office, and actually could have gotten re-elected if he had been eligible to run for another term. Course, the liberals will tell you, Clinton was carrying on with a consenting adult, like that's a distinction.

Seer,
I call bullshit. Monica and Bill were two consenting adults, adultery and various sins aside.
Indiscretions, as some in Washington will say, right up until someone gets caught.
If Foley manages to keep his seat and/or reputation then one would have to assume that he holds power with the seven-headed demon of the later passages of the good book. We all know where that road goes.
This Foley incident in about pedophilia. The man made sure he had constant contact with youths; he planned his career around that goal and was successful. He also didn't get there by himself.
Anyone who knew he was a pedophile and did nothing has got to go.
A blowjob between consenting adults, albeit different spheres (e.g. escorts + yachtload of VIPs, or a staffer age 28 years and a married man) is NOT THE SAME AS PEDOPHILIA.
Right wingers will have to do a little soul searching to get their order of sins in... err order.

Anonymous appears to be some kind of plant - somebody water it.

Meanwhile, how long has this been going on?

I surprised you liberals aren't obsessing about Rep. Don Sherwod (R., Pa) who recently got hisself into a misunderestimation with his 29-year-old girlfriend, as in http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/archives/2005/05/congressman_mike_sherwood_choking_scandal/
