Can these people not read or WHAT?

Yes, it's cruel to pick on a badly-educated high school student, but if you choose to start a blog and metaphorically lay your balls on the anvil, you shouldn't be surprised when someone who actually understands, you know, stuff comes along with a ballpeen hammer to take a whack at them.

Over here, right-wing hack Jason faithfully channels Ezra Levant:

Ezra Levant has a great example of how the media really didn't seem to notice when Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer attacked Condoleezza Rice's status as a single woman.

Boxer was flustered by Rice -- a multilingual PhD, former head of Stanford University, concert pianist and Russian expert. Out of arguments, Boxer degenerated into sneers: "You're not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, with an immediate family," she said. "So who pays the price? The American military and their families."

Of all the arguments the Democrats can muster to oppose Rice, of all the facts and figures and logic, the best they can do is point out Rice is a single woman with no kids in the military.

Now, given that Jason seems either unable or unwilling to understand what actually happened, let's go to the transcript, shall we? And let's emphasize the part of Boxer's statement from which both Ezra and Jason carefully averted their eyes:

BOXER [audio clip]: Madame Secretary, please, I know you feel terrible about it, that's not the point. I was making the case as to who pays the price for your decisions. Now the issue is: Who pays the price? Who pays the price? I'm not going to pay a personal price; my kids are too old, and my grandchild is too young. You're not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, with an immediate family. So who pays the price? The American military and their families.

Well, how about that? Apparently, Boxer was making the point that neither of them, given their respective family situations, was going to pay a personal price for Rice's perpetually idiotic and incompetent decisions. But having quoted Boxer's very previous sentence would have been, well, inconvenient for both and Ezra and Jason so ... snip.

Good job, Jason. The next time Ezra needs an obedient stenographer, I'm sure he has you on speed dial.

In other news, it's cold so global warming must be a myth.

TIME FOR A GOOD CONDI RICE SMACKDOWN. I'm getting seriously tired of reading these fawning testimonials of Condi Rice and how she's such an accomplished, successful, intellectual power house when, in point of fact, all of that alleged "success" demands that one ask the question -- how can someone so ostensibly clever be such an overwhelming, total fuck-up?

Do I really need to supply the links? I'll tell you what. I'll start things off with this. At this point, you folks can start adding to the list and, when we think it's sufficiently complete and damning, I can bundle them up and ship them off to Ezra and his toy poodle, Jason.

Go wild.

ANOTHER FREEBIE: Stupid or evasive? You make the call.

There's going to be a special hell for Ezra "The Liar" Levant for having corrupted so many young minds.

By the way, this kind of obnoxious gush -- "Boxer was flustered by Rice -- a multilingual PhD, former head of Stanford University, concert pianist and Russian expert."-- always reminds me of how an outraged Elena Ceauşescu protested the impertinence of the Rumanian authorities for treating Nicolae..."an academic...a scholar!" in such a shabby fashion just before both were executed. In any case, I've heard that apparently, Condi's Russian is crap. I wouldn't know, since I've never heard the "multilingual PhD" speak anything other than Standard Lying English.

Levant is a grasping, fawning, toadying little sycophant.

I think TOAD is perfectly succinct.

I have to thank CC for constantly calling out the stupidity of the ridiculous right. Once again I was moved to write a blog about how some use the idea of 'snow in January' directly equates to 'global warming is bunk'--

Without CC constantly checking up on these constantly wrong 'righties', I'd have to, you know, actually go read all of them for myself. I cringe just thinking about it.
Thanks CC!

I found that this book review from 1985 shed some light on how such a 'star foreign policy intellectual' such as Rice could be so ignorant about people and politics in the Middle East. The review paints a picture of someone who's credibility was established by publications that reinforced the American elite's views of the world, rather than challenging those views with actual research.

Oh that is crappy scholarship. The glaring factual errors are really damning.

"Multilingual PhD" indded.
